Cuba starts with a 3-0 victory over French Saint Martin

 

TIJUANA, Mexico, July 2 2012 — Cuba started with a victory over French Saint Martin 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-7) at the Norceca U19 Boy’s Continental Championship.

 

Luis Guillermo Jimeno and Osmany Uriarte scored 11 points apiece for Cuba, (including 6 aces for Uriarte) while Kareem Brooks finished with 7 for French Saint Martin.

 

“This is the first time we play at this level, we prepared but felt some tension, and I want to congratulate Cuba  for this win,”, said French Saint Matin’s captain  Fresnet Fabre.

 

“We are also making our debut, we are a very young team with an average of 16 or 17 years old players but we have had a good preparation for our goal, that is to finish with a good place to the world championship,” Cuban captain Ricardo Calvo stated.

 

Stephen Thierry, coach of French Saint Martin said: “We didn’t play our best based in the fact this was our first experience at this level. We expected a match against a tough team, however we noticed that we can do it better”.

 

For Cuba’s coach, Rodolfo Sanchez this was the first step in the pursue of an specific objective: to qualify to the World Championship. “We had a tense start at the match, but we expect to increase our level as long as the tournament advances, because we are focused in qualifiying for the next year”.
