Brilliant opening ceremony in Baja California

TIJUANA, Mexico, July 2, 2012 – The NORCECA U-19 Boy’s Continental Championship was inaugurated on Monday with a brilliant opening ceremony.

The eight participant delegations paraded around the center area of the Multi-Purpose Gym in the High Performance Center, where a local group of dancers performed several folkloric acts.

The ceremony was presided over by the authorities of local and international sport, including the director of competition and representative of NORCECA, Bertha Cuadra, who thanked the Organizing Committee for its efforts and facilities to put on the event.

“This event serves for the development of the future of our Confederation, as well as for volleyball in Mexico and the countries of NORCECA and our athletes,” Cuadra said, while crediting the Sport and Physical Culture of Baja California for all the support.

On behalf of the Mexican Volleyball Federation, its president Ismael Acosta García, officially pronounced the opening of the competition, remarking the goodwill shown by Baja California, through the Institute and the state volleyball association, by hosting several tournaments and supporting all the programs of the Federation.

Also, Saul Castro Verdugo, General Director of Baja California Sport and Physical Culture Institute, welcomed the teams and special guests just before the match between hosts Mexico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
