Nicaragua sneaks into the quarterfinals

TIJUANA, Mexico, July 4, 2012 - Nicaragua advanced to the quarterfinals of the NORCECA Boys’ U-19 Continental Championship after cruising victory in straight sets (25-10, 25-22, 25-9) over winless French Saint Martin.

Ruben Alejandro Mora scored 17 points for Nicaragua while Douglas Alexander Chavez finished with 10. For French Saint Martin Kareem Brooks registered 5 units.

“The match was better for us than the two previous ones. We played better today at the beginning but in the second and third sets we lost the focus,” French Saint Martin captain, Fresnet Fabre said.

“We had some errors in the second set, but we hope to correct those mistakes when we get back home,” French Saint Martin coach, Stephen Thierry said.

“I am glad for this victory, it was very important to get into the quarterfinals and now we have to be prepared for tomorrow”, Chavez commented.

For Nicaragua’s coach Osman Hernández, this has been an amazing journey. “We played against a very tough and strong team like French Saint Martin. If we had not won this match, the situation would have been very complicated. Tomorrow we have another tough match but we have nothing to lose and the guys are very happy,” he concluded.
