Nicaragua to play for fifth place

TIJUANA, Mexico, July 6, 2012 - Nicaragua downed French Saint Martin 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-14) in a match for the 5-8 positions of the NORCECA Boy’s U-19 Continental Championship.

Nicaragua’s captain Douglas Alexander Chavez tallied 10 points and Ivan Mejia finished with 8.  Kareem Brooks was the top scorer for French Saint Martin with 7 points.

“We played better, there are some aspects we have to correct, but also I am a little bit disappointed in some things,” French Saint Martin Coach Stephen Thierry said.

Captain Fresnet Fabre stated: “I feel we have been playing better as the tournament goes on. We defended the ball and there were some elements that went out of our control, and were not in our favor.”

Nicaragua’s Coach Osman Hernandez recognized that there were many difficulties at this match, but at the same time they “improved the reception, but we still need to be more united and play tougher”, he said.

For Douglas Chavez there was a feeling of concern but at the same time a huge motivation. “I feel we have decreased our level a little bit, but tomorrow it will be very important, because if we finish with a victory, we will return home with a fifth place.”
