Cuba’s Uriarte earns MVP honors
TIJUANA, Mexico, July 7, 2012 - Osmany Uriarte of Cuba, the best
scorer and best server of the NORCECA Boys’ U-19 Continental
Championship, also took home the honors as Most Valuable Player
of the competition.
Cuban players locked all but one of the individual awards
presented during the closing ceremonies on Saturday.
The continental champions coached by Rodolfo Sanchez had a
roster composed of rising stars such as Inover Romero, Jorge
Caraballo, Entenza Barbaro and Captain Ricardo Calvo.
Romero received the Best Spiker distinction while Caraballo was
named Best Blocker. Barbaro received the trophy as Best Receiver
and Calvo as Best Setter. The only country other than Cuba to be
represented in the individual award ceremony was Costa Rica with
Luis Chavez who earned the honors as Best Libero and Best Digger.
