U.S. Virgin Islands finish seventh

TIJUANA, Mexico, July 7 2012 —  The US Virgin Islands team won its first match in the NORCECA Boys’ U-19 Continental Championship to finish in the seventh place of the tournament after beating French Saint Martin 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21).

Aseah Thomas and Jordan Evans led the US Virgin Islands with 16 points apiece. For French Saint Martin Stephane Morisseau and Ashille Brooks each tallied 12 each while Kareem Brooks added 11.

“It was a good match I just want to congratulate Saint Thomas (Virgin Islands) for this victory,” Saint Martin’s captain Fresnet Fabre said. Coach Lakish Plante remarked: “This was pretty intense for both of us”.

For US Virgin Islands coach, Mark Daniel the victory finally arrived, but he expected more in the tournament.

“We are very excited about this win, we came out with an attitude and good execution, but expected to do better and we are still a long way to go,” Daniel said about finishing seventh.
