Ten NORCECA teams to compete for in Women’s Junior Championship

TIJUANA, Mexico, July 1, 2010 – Ten teams grouped in three pools will compete in NORCECA Women’s Volleyball Junior Championship to be held in Tijuana, Mexico through July 5-10.

Entries from Canada, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic in Pool A, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago in Pool B and El Salvador, Guadeloupe, Mexico and defending champions USA in Pool C, will be vying for the regional supremacy and three spots in next year’s FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship in Peru, a competition for players under 20 years-old.

USA Team, the only team with podium’s finishes in all the editions of the tournament, has won the last three times (in each occasion by defeating the representative of Dominican Republic) and four overall. Cuba and Puerto Rico have claimed the other two titles in the history of the event.

The schedule features four daily matches at the Baja California High Performance Center Gymnasium in Tijuana, starting at 13:00 local time.

The two pool’s winners with better points-ratio will advance directly to the semifinal round with the other first ranked team going to the quarterfinals to play against the second placed sides.
