Ten NORCECA teams to compete
for in Women’s Junior Championship
TIJUANA, Mexico, July 1, 2010 –
Ten teams grouped in three pools will compete in NORCECA Women’s
Volleyball Junior Championship to be held in Tijuana, Mexico
through July 5-10.
Entries from Canada, Costa Rica
and Dominican Republic in Pool A, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Trinidad
& Tobago in Pool B and El Salvador, Guadeloupe, Mexico and
defending champions USA in Pool C, will be vying for the
regional supremacy and three spots in next year’s FIVB Women’s
Junior World Championship in Peru, a competition for players
under 20 years-old.
USA Team, the only team with
podium’s finishes in all the editions of the tournament, has won
the last three times (in each occasion by defeating the
representative of Dominican Republic) and four overall. Cuba and
Puerto Rico have claimed the other two titles in the history of
the event.
The schedule features four daily
matches at the Baja California High Performance Center Gymnasium
in Tijuana, starting at 13:00 local time.
The two pool’s winners with better
points-ratio will advance directly to the semifinal round with
the other first ranked team going to the quarterfinals to play
against the second placed sides.
