MIAMI, Florida, July 3, 2009.- Argentina
defeated Costa Rica in straight sets by score of
25-22, 25-22, 25-16 and will play Peru on
Saturday for the fifth place in the Eighth
Women’s Pan American Cup.
The Argentineans had to come from behind against
a resilient opponent during the first two sets
of the match but easily dominated in the third
one.
Georgina Pinedo and Georgina Klug led Argentina
with 13 and 11 points respectively and Leticia
Boscacci and Florencia Busquets added nine
apiece.
Verania Willis carried most of the load of Costa
Rican offense with 18 points, 17 of them via
attacks. Mariela Quesada added 8 and Angela
Willis and Paola Ramirez each contributed seven
points.
“To play against Peru is a beautiful way of
finishing the tournament,” said Klug. “We also
want to prepare our team for the World
Championship’s qualifier and want to finish as
the second South American team here which means
a ticket to the Final Four Tournament.”
“It was a good match but we could have played
better,” said Verania Willis. “We tried to put
pressure with our serves and it worked but only
for moments.”
