United
States won its fourth consecutive
Continental U-18 Norceca Championship
blanking Mexico in the final match. The
score was 25-17, 25-14, 25-20.
United States established its size in the
offense and the blocking at the net during
the whole match, to dominate the final
contest. The Americans had won the
tournament in 2002 (Salt Lake City, USA),
2004 (Cataño, Puerto Rico) and 2006 (Gainesville,
USA).
The Mexican squad could not handle the
pressure of the final match and gave up
several points.
“I am very happy with the achievement,
winning is always exciting. Now we have to
prepare for the World Championship and put
together the best talent available
including players who have not been here,”
said James Stone, the coach of United
States.
Ricardo Naranjo, the Mexican coach,
considered the lach of maturity affected
his team. “They established a great
tactical plan which worked every moment.
Their aggressive serve caused us a lot of
trouble during the match.”
United States had Tetori Dixon and Ashley
Wittman with 10 points apiece and Erica
Denney added nibe. For Mexico, Andrea
Rangel had 10 points and Samantha Briccio
added seven points. |
