Trinidad & Tobago defeated Mexico

TIJUANA, Mexico, June 18, 2010 – Trinidad & Tobago defeated Mexico 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-23) in the last match of Day One in the Women’s Pan American Cup. It was the first victory of the Trinidadians in four years participating in the event.

Krystle Esdelle and Kelly-Anne Billingy were the best scorers of the winners with 22 and 16 points respectively. Mexicans Andrea Rangel and Samantha Bricio led the defeated side with 16 and 15 points.

“The girls are satisfied with their first victory and our main goal during all these years has been to play up to the level of Mexico and Costa Rica,” Trinidadian coach Francisco Cruz said. “My athletes have done a great effort.”

“We had some difficulties with our reception but overall I am satisfied because we are using this tournament as preparation for the NORCECA Junior Continental Tournament,” Mexican Coach Jose Bernal said.
