Puerto Rico scores second win in Pool B

TIJUANA, Mexico, June 21, 2010 – Puerto Rico evened its record at 2-2 in Pool B of the Women’s Pan American Cup after defeating Mexico in straight-sets (25-22, 25-14, 25-15) in the last match of Monday.

Stephanie Enright and Tatiana Encarnacion compiled 13 and 12 points respectively for the winners and Sarai Alvarez added 8. Mexican Samantha Bricio led all the scorers with 16 points and Andrea Rangel added 10.

“We used the match to fine tune some aspects we needed to solve like connecting better with our middle players,” Puerto Rican Vilmarie Mojica said. “We achieved our goal and finished strong.”

“This has been our best game thus far because we could manage the strong serves of Puerto Rico,” Mexican coach Jose Bernal said. “We reacted very well against a team of high level. Remember this is a team of players under 18 years-old.”
