Larson-Burbach going for another gold medal

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, April 22, 2015 - She won the ultimate in national team prizes and now she is back to claim the foremost honour in club competitions.

After collecting a gold medal with Team USA at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014, Jordan Quinn Larson-Burbach will be aiming to claim another with Turkey’s Eczacibasi Istanbul at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in Zurich in under three weeks’ time.

In fact, the 29-year-old outside hitter will be aiming to collect her second gold medal in the competition after helping Dinamo Kazan to success in last year's competition.

But there’s an interesting matchup for Larson-Burbach on her way to her second Club World Championship gold. She’ll have to face Russia’s Dinamo Krasnodar on the second day of pool play and could come up against the same opponent again in the final. And on the other side of the net will be another outside hitter with a similar background and a similar goal.

Brazil’s Fe Garay won Olympic gold in 2012 in London beating Larson-Burbach’s USA 3-1 in the final at the iconic Earls Court. Just a couple of months later, Fe Garay led Brazil’s Sollys Nestle Osasco to gold at that year’s Club World Championship in Doha. Now, she too will be aiming for a second gold with a different club.

The two attackers also met in another historic clash that will be remembered for years to come. In the World Championship semifinal in Milan last year, Larson-Burbach’s USA defeated Fe Garay’s Brazil 3-0, taking sweet revenge for that loss in London.

So mark the day, because they meet again. On Thursday, May 7 - the second leg of pool play at Zurich 2015 - Larson-Burbach’s Eczacibasi take on Fe Garay’s Dinamo Krasnodar. And when you get Americans against Brazilians on the court, even if they’re playing for clubs from Turkey and Russia, it’s surely a contest not to be missed.
