Mexicans Virgen and Miramontes succeed at El Salvador


SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, March 29, 2010 – The Mexican team of Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen claimed the crown of the second stop of the 2010 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit at El Salvador.

Miramontes/Virgen crushed the USA team of Ty Loomis/Matt Prosser in a lopsided final match by score of 21-13, 21-9.

The best match of the day was reserved for the bronze medal contest where Cubans Karell Peña and Sergio Gonzalez prevailed in a tough battle against Canadians Martin Reader and Ray Sewell. The Cubans succeeded in their third match-point winning by score of 21-13, 17-21 and 22-20.

The expected battle for the gold turned out to be an easy win for Miramontes/Virgen who enjoyed a brilliant performance and played almost perfectly.

The Mexicans reached the final match by scoring a 21-12, 21-19 victory over Peña/González, while the Americans edged Canadians Reader/Sewell by score of 21-19, 21-18.

The 2010 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit continues next weekend in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.

Men’s final results: Semi finals: USA d. CAN (21-19, 21-18), MEX d. CUB (21-12, 21-19). Bronze medal match: CUB d. CAN (21-13, 17-21, 22-20). Gold medal match: MEX d. USA (21-13, 21-9)
