Mexico beats Costa Rica in three sets

 

MONTERREY, México, March 20, 2017 –Mexico defeated Costa Rica in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-16.

 

Raymond Stephens finished as top scorer for Mexico with 15 points (and five aces), while Miguel Sarabia scored 13 (four aces).

 

Mariano Salas closed with 6 units for Costa Rica after one hour and eight minutes of game. Mexico served 12 aces against none by Costa Rica and leaded the match 7-2 in blocks.

 

Captain of Costa Rica, Jose Andres Ortiz: “We came here and tried to play a good match. We fought hard and faced a very good and tough opponent, like Mexico.”

 

Captain of Mexico, Jesús Carlos Flores: “We wanted to have a good start. Thus we prepared very well for this tournament and got our first goal that was to win the first match.”

 

Coach of Costa Rica, Juan Acuña: “We fought against Mexico, it was difficult. However we still have our goal in our match against Nicaragua to classify.”

 

Coach of Mexico, Gabriela Alarcón: “We felt a Little bit nervous when we began to play in front of our fans, but we went one step at a time to recover and win.”
