Mexico undefeated champion in Mazara Cup
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 3, 2018 - Mexico was
unbeaten champion of the Men's International Volleyball Cup "Horacio-Chichí-Mazara
after defeating Chile in a tough five-set final (23-25, 25-21,
25-15, 21-25 and 15-07) at the Gioriver Arias Palace of the Juan
Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in this capital.
The Mexican coach Jorge Azair Lopez achieved his fifth and final
victory with a very balanced game of its members in all aspects,
with Daniel Vargas with 25 points, Jorge Barajas with 13, José
Martínez 12, Pedro Rangel 10, Jonathan Martinez eight, and Jesus
Duarte seven.
The runner-up Chile, who left very pleasant impression with his
game and overall record of 3-2 in this region where their
presence is scarce, had and outstanding game for the final with
Dusan Bonacic 18, Tomás Parraguirre 17, Matías Parraguirre 13.
Chile was ahead in the two technical stops of the initial set
8-7, 16-12 and Mexico equaled to 23 points, but those of the
land of Neruda recovered to get ahead. The Aztecs returned the
favor in the second section with greater advantage in the times
and resisted a last-minute rebellion.
In the third Chile resisted until 11-16, but the good Mexican
game destabilized it. After conceding the first technical time
of the quarter, Chile took its claws and although Mexico tied it
to 20, could match the match 2-2. The North Americans appealed
to its greater depth to sentence the fifth period.
Mexico arrived to the final beating the three opponents in the
qualifying phase and beat Guatemala in a semifinal. Chile did
the same for their 2-1 record in the regular and their triumph
in four sets over Dominican in the other semifinal. |
