NORCECA Women’s Tokyo 2020 is 98 percent ready

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, January 7, 2020 - The president of the Organizing Committee for the NORCECA Women's Volleyball Tokyo 2020 Tournament, Mr. José Ramón Peralta, proclaimed on Tuesday the people in the Dominican Republic will enjoy a "world-class show" next weekend, while commenting that the assembling is 98 percent covered for the competition.

 

Teams of Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic will compete for one single ticket to the volleyball tournament of the Olympic Games in the Japanese capital.

 

Peralta, who doubles up as Administrative Minister of the Dominican Republic Government, announced that teams of Puerto Rico and Canada will arrive in Santo Domingo on Wednesday while the Mexican squad will be doing so on early hours of Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference held at a local restaurant, along other members of the Organizing Committee, Peralta said the Dominican Republic team would arrive later on Tuesday.

“Our Queens of the Caribbean have given a lot of glory to the national sport and it is time for the Dominican people to return all their love attending to support them in the Palacio de los Deportes during the weekend,” he said.

The Dominicans spent the first week of January training and playing scrimmage matches in Sao Paulo, Brazil against some of the teams of the Brazilian Super Liga.

Peralta was accompanied by Mr. Danilo Díaz, Minister of Sports and Recreation, Mr. Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA Confederation, Major General Ney Aldrin Bautista, Director of the National Police, as well as Mr. Nelson Guillen, director of the Institute of Telecommunications.

He invited the media to attend a tour of the Palacio de los Deportes, the official competition venue, on Thursday to check the way it has been prepared to host a world-class event.

Marte Hoffiz, who is also the president of the Dominican Female Volleyball Project, expressed his gratitude to the president of the Dominican Republic Mr. Danilo Medina Sánchez for the financial support to bring the event to the country. He also thanked Ministers Peralta and Díaz as well as Mejía Oviedo who has been directly involved in the organization.

Several national TV channels will broadcast the two daily matches, including CRTV Channel 4 and COLIMDO the channel of the Olympic Committee. The signal will be streamed on demand by NORCECA TV.
