National Referee Course concludes in Santo Domingo

 

   

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 14, 2016 – The Dominican Republic Volleyball Federation concluded a three-day national course for referees, scorers and line judges that gathered together 96 participants from all over the country.

 

The course, which was organized by the NORCECA/FIVB Regional Development Center in the Dominican Republic, had the financial support from NORCECA Confederation for a third consecutive year.

 

Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, attended the closing ceremony and was one of the authorities presenting the certificates to those who passed the course.

 

“It is very important to develop more and more referees and scorers as the practice of volleyball continues to expand in the country,” Mejía said. “The provincial tournaments at the different age-group levels should be well organized and refereeing and scorers are part of the whole picture.”

 

Ramón Garcia, president of the Dominican Republic Volleyball Federation, expressed congratulations to all the participants who received also a referee national card to officiate in local tournaments.

 

“We will continue doing our part playing as facilitators to spread volleyball throughout the country,” García said. “I also take the opportunity to thank NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz for the support in the organization of this important course.”

 

Salvador Bautista, president of the DR Federation Refereeing Commission, was the supervisor of the course. He was assisted by Julio Martinez, a beach volleyball referee, and Binevenido Mateo, member of the NORCECA VIS and Stats Commission.
