New Record: Two players with 30+ points in the same match

TRUJILLO, Peru, July 6, 2019 – For the first time in the history of the Women’s Pan American Cup two players reached the plateau of 30-plus points in the same match.

Argentina’s Lucia Fresco had 35 points in the five-set victory of Argentina over Canada (25-27, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 19-17) while Alexa Lea Gray finished with 34 in the losing effort. Both Fresco and Gray registered individual records for their teams in the cup.

The new record was announced by Roosevelt Comarazamy, director of communications of NORCECA from Santo Domingo.

Fresco’s 35-point performance tied for the third highest total with Kristin Richard of United States (against Brazil on July 20, 2012) and behind the 41 by Cuba’s Heidy Casanova (against Canada on June 25, 2017) and 37 by Dominican Sidarka Nuñez (against United States on May 30, 2008).

The 230 points by the two teams fell short of the record for the highest scoring match of 235 set in the victory of Dominican Republic over Puerto Rico 3-2 (34-36, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-9) on July 3, 2009.

Canada registered 22 blocks, one short of the record of 23 set by Dominican Republic against Puerto Rico on June 27, 2007 and later equaled by Brazil against Argentina on June 28, 2009.
