Nicaragua beats Belize 3-0 at AFECAVOL U-18

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, August 19, 2017.- Nicaragua beat Belize 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-14) at the morning session of the XII AFECAVOL Girls’2 U-18 Central American Championship in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Nicaragua won their second match of the event recovering from a deficit in set two as Belize performance demanded more attention. Nicaragua held 30-20 advantage in spikes, 5-4 in blocks and 8-5 in service points. Nicaragua limited their errors to 20 and Belize committed 32.

With 16 points, opposite Maria Arcia of Nicaragua topped all scorers. Outside hitter Gareth Bruce scored 12 points for Belize.

Nicaragua has 2-2 record and 11 points, while Belize has zeroed all. In their last performance, Nicaragua will face Guatemala and Belize will play against El Salvador.

Masiel Brenes, outside hitter of Nicaragua: “We complete one another, it’s a team effort and today our communication was the key to finish winning”.

Claudia Noguera, coach of Nicaragua: “The team defended more, receiving has improved and that allowed us to control the game. For our closing match we hope to keep the same energy and stick to the basics: reception and defense”.

Jayda Smith, captain of Belize: “Our energy and enthusiasm has improved, we are way more excited and integrated. For our last match we expect to play our best”.  

Delio Arruebarrena, coach of Belize: “Nicaragua plays similar that us but the performed better today, their defense was efficient in addition to define points in crucial moments”.
