Top-seeded women cruised to victories in St Lucia

 

GROS ISLET, St Lucia, October 26, 2012 –USA, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica, the top-seeded teams in action during the opening day at the St Lucia Beach Volleyball Tournament all won their respective matches at beautiful Pigeon Point Beach on Friday.

 

The number-two seeded USA combo of Kathryn Babcock and Tracilyn Weamer confirmed their high level by overwhelming Anguilla’s Eva Hodge and Rikiesha Leveret 21-6, 21-16.

 

The promising third-ranked pair of Dominicans Deborah Constanzo and Karla Montilla downed Grenada’s Shakira Collymore and Maginnie Ampofo 21-2, 21-11 while the experienced fourth-seeded Costa Rican duo of Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro won 21-13, 21-16 against Nancy Joseph and Pauline Woodroffe of Trinidad & Tobago-2.

 

The top-ranked Kristina Vlcek and Victoria Cowley of Canada received a free-pass to the second round and will start competing on Saturday.

 

Fans at Pigeon Point Beach saw the local girls Samantha Mann and Dania Hamilton of St Lucia-1 winning their match 21-13, 21-9 over Nikita Campbell and Bownie Allicot of Saint Vicent.

 

After losing their two matches of the opening day, the teams of Anguilla, Grenada and Saint Lucia-2 were eliminated.
