Panama defeats Belize in straight sets

 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, September 8, 2017.- Panama defeated Belize in straight sets (27-25, 25-22, 25-22) on the first match of day four of the XVII AFECAVOL U-21 Men’s Central American Championship at IND Volleyball venue in Managua.

 

Belize started winning all three sets but Panama recovered half way and finished winning. Panama has a record of two matches won and one lost, while Belize lost their fourth match in the row.

 

Panama’s captain Jose Anguizola led his team with 25 points, helped by Jose Soto on 15 points. Francis Hauze and Michael Jinkins scored 19 and 20 points for Belize.

 

Panama was more effective than Belize prevailing with 41-30 margin in spikes. Belize did better in blocking (8-6) and in serves (3-2). Both teams finished with 28 unforced errors.

 

Delio Arruebarrena, Head coach of Belize explained “it was an even performance, my team was always on top but in the end we lost because we can’t close sets”.

 

Eugenio Ortiz, Head coach of Panama expressed “Belize played very well, my boys started badly and from point 11 or 12 they begin to move ahead. We hope to keep on winning and battle to finish in the top positions”.
