Pools decided for Barranquilla CAC Games

BARRANQUILLA, Colombia, March 23, 2018 – The pools division of teams to participate in the double-gender volleyball tournaments of the XXIII Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, have been decided.

Mr. Cistobal Marte Hoffiz, technical delegate for both competitions, recently made an inspection visit to supervise the state of construction of the volleyball facility as well as the temporary area for beach volleyball.

Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela will compete in the women’s Pool A, while Colombia, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica will play in Pool B. In the men’s event, Pool A will be composed by Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela and Pool B will consist of Colombia, Puerto Rico, Guatemala and Trinidad & Tobago.

Mr. Marte Hoffiz, who was accompanied by Mme Arateide Caceres, director of national federations of NORCECA, met with the authorities designed by the Organizing Committee for the volleyball competitions. The participants from the OC were: Humberto Cintron, technical director of CASCO, Luis Eduardo Castillo, beach volleyball coordinator, Jose Pagano, volleyball manager, Jose Polchopek, Colombian Federation delegate, Nelson Osorio and Maycol Thomas, technical direction of COBAR, Jose Vecino, logistics, Carlos Cervantes, medical delegate, and Jorge Cotes, registration coordinator

During the two-day meeting, it was decided that NORCECA will donate one Sport Court surface for the playing venue while the organizing committee will purchase two other surfaces from the same supplier for the training facilities.

NORCECA confirmed the donation of all the playing equipment for the competitions, including the Molten official balls.

The parts agreed also on the use and location of the lights, rooms for the referees, control committee, anti-doping station. Also the locker rooms and the necessary equipment.

Marte Hoffiz also visited the area of El Malecón where the temporary beach volleyball facilities are to be located. He reviewed the layouts and made several recommendations to guarantee the fluid transit of fans and players.

They also discussed the nomination of referees and NORCECA will designate a technical director as well as the rest of the members of the control committee.

Transportation of players, technical staff, control committee and technical and international delegates were also approved.

A second inspection visit will take place next June.
