The meeting was held at the facilities of Academia Perpetuo Socorro in San Juan and began with welcoming words from Herminio Nieves, director of national teams program, the head coach Ramón “Monchito” Hernández and former captain of the team Hector “Picky” Soto.

Technical and administrative information was presented to the players ahead of the 2017 most important tournaments – the Pan American Cup to be contested in Canada next July and the NORCECA Continental Championship next September in United States.

The players who attended the meeting included Sequiel Sánchez, Jackson Rivera, Ramón Burgos, Eddie Rivera, Víctor Cosme, José Mulero, Josué Nuñez, Pedro Sierra and Arnel Cabrera.

“I am very pleased with the meeting and in the next few days a tape recording of it will be distributed to all the players who are currently playing overseas,” Nieves said.

Hernández was accompanied by his staff of assistants composed by Carlos Rivera, Enrique “Kike” Pérez, Manuel “Wito” Acevedo, Wilfredo Nazario and Jesús Echevarría.

Soto addressed the players on the importance and pride that means dressing in the colors of the team’s country.

“I am confident that you will continue carrying the torch and a happy ending would be to see the team reaching the Olympic Games for the satisfaction of all who preceded you and to know their effort was not in vain,” Soto said.

The preparation of the team will begin next week with the physical and medical tests.
