Puerto Ricans Navas and González stay on the right track

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, October 9, 2018 – Puerto Ricans Allanis Navas and María González and Devon Newberry and Lindsey Sparks of United States scored their second victories in as many outings in the girls’ beach volleyball tournament of the Youth Olympic Games on Tuesday.

Navas and Gonzalez, who compete in Pool E, dominated Vanuatu’s Maybel Ravo and Luduine Tebeim by scores of 2-0 (21-11, 21-5).

Meanwhile, Newberry and Sparks of United States stopped Celine Baumann and Mara Betschart of Switzerland 2-0 (21-16. 21-12) in Pool A.

In Pool D, Paola Alvarado and Maria Juárez of Guatemala lost to Julia Gierczynska and Patrycja Jundzill of Poland by 2-0 (21-11, 21-14).

In the boys’ division, Timothy Brewster and John Schwengel of United States subdued Venezuela’s Jose Osorio and Gabriel González 2-0 (21-13, 21-18) to even their record at 1-1 in Pool F.

Also in Pool F, Rabiently Mercalina and Brian Howell of Aruba lost to Bintang Akbar and Danang Herlambang of Indonesia 2-0 (21-17, 21-16).

In Pool G, Alexandre Lezcano and Criforth Lobo of Costa Rica lost to Hungary’s Artur Hajos and Bence Streli 2-0 (21-13, 21-18).
