Puerto Rico defeats Suriname for seventh place

CALI, Colombia, December 4, 2021. - Puerto Rico defeated Suriname 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-18) for seventh place in the women’s volleyball tournament of the I Junior Pan American Games Cali-Valle 2021 at Evangelista Mora Coliseum.

Puerto Rico ends with a 2-2 win-loss record for seventh place and Suriname with 0-4 for position eight.

Puerto Rico prevailed over Suriname with a 42-14 margin in attacks and 7-3 in service points, Suriname held a slim 4-3 advantage in blocks. Puerto Rico had 13 unforced errors and Suriname a total of 23.

Outside hitter Gabriela Cabrera led Puerto Rico with 12 points all on kills and captain Ivana Ortíz followed with 8 points, including 6 points in serves. Captain Cabriella Bouterse topped Suriname with 9 points all on kills.

Juan Carlos Ramírez, head coach of Puerto Rico: “We won the match we needed too (Peru) but our pool was the strongest and we weren’t lucky to finish in the position we had in mind. We have to keep playing and making an effort”.

Cabriealla Bouterse, captain of Suriname: “It took too long to start playing but eventually in the third set I think is the one we should remember, it showed there is a will to play”.
