Puerto Rico open training camp in Japan

SAITAMA, Japan, September 23, 2018 – The Puerto Rican women’s national team went through its first working sessions to start the training camp in the city of Saitama.

The squad arrived in Saitama on Saturday night where they will finish the preparation ahead of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship that kicks off on September 29.

“We had three working sessions, two in court and one of weightlifting,” said Coach Jose Mieles. “The group worked out really well in the different drills. The evening session was dedicated to the technical and tactical plan.”

Puerto Rico will play three friendly matches against Ageo Medics, a team that plays in the Japanese V League.

The Puerto Ricans will travel to Hamamatsu, host city of Pool D, on September 27 and two days later will debut in the world championship against Brazil. The other teams in the pool are Kazakhstan, Kenya, Serbia and Dominican Republic.
