Refereeing must grow together with the game

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 23, 2018 – Guided by the idea that refereeing must grow at the same rhythm volleyball is doing at a world level, the NORCECA/FIVB Regional Development Center in the Dominican Republic opened a Refreshment Course on Friday.

 

The Refreshment Course is under the direction of José Ramón Pérez Vento, president of NORCECA Refereeing Commission, Guy Bradbury, secretary, and Guillermo Paredes, president of FIVB Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission.

 

Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee and IOC member, underlined the importance of the work ethic and transparency by the judges to go with technology which is present more and more in sports.

 

Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA, was present at the opening ceremony and will participate in the course presenting a report of the development plan of the confederation and the global plan of FIVB regarding Refereeing.

 

Also attending the opening ceremony were: Anibal Portorreal, vice minister of Sports and Recreation of Dominican Republic, Antonio Acosta, secretary of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Mireya Luis, vice president of NORCECA, and Nelson Ramirez, director of the volleyball development center.
