Semifinals are set in Cuban Men’s League
HAVANA, Cuba, February 25, 2013 –Santiago de Cuba, Sancti
Spiritus, Capitalinos and Cienfuegos are the four teams the
semifinal phase of the Cuban Men’s National League.
Playing at Amistad Hall of Santa Clara, the Santiago squad
defeated Camaguey 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-19, 25-20) to finish
with a 4-0 record in the preliminary round.
Once again, Wilfredo Leon was a key for the victory with 14
points, followed by 11 of Alexander Gonzalez. The defeated side
had brothers Yosdanys and Yosvani González with 19 and 17 points
respectively.
The second spot to the next round went to Sancti Spiritus
following a 3-1 (17-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-18).
Rolando Cepeda and Osmani Uriarte each finished with 16 points
in leading the winning side which concluded with a 3-1 win-loss
record. The teams of Santa Clara (2-2) and Granma (0-4) finished
in the bottom half of the standings in the eastern zone.
In the western zone, at Multi-Purpose 19 de Noviembre Pavillion,
Capitalinos and Cienfuegos closed out in the top two places to
continue battling for the title.
Capitalinos did not lose a single set en route to a 4-0 win-loss
mark while Cienfuegos had a 3-1 record. Pinar del Rio was third
with 2-2 followed by Havana (1-3) and Matanzas (0-4). |
