St Maarten clinical in straight sets against Anguilla

GROS ISLET, St Lucia,   August 12, 2017 :  St Maarten  registered an uncomplicated  downing of Anguilla 3-0 ( 25-17, 25-17, 25-22) match two of the  men’s Group D of the NORCECA Zone of the FIVB  World Championships Qualifiers  round for teams in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA),  at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.

St Maarten dictated the match from the first serve, to thwart whatever their opponents threw at them.

Double figures contributions from Outside Hitter- Leonardo Jeffers with 11 points and 10 from Shaquille Rombley, helped St Maarten’s cause. Outside Hitter-Sherwin Richardson had 7 points, to be the lead scorer for Anguilla.

St Maarten bettered Anguilla in Attacks, winning that category 34-19, but Anguilla got the edge in Blocks, registering 7 to St Maarten’s 6.

Coach, Dimitri Beauperthy of St Maarten, weighing in on his team’s victory noted that the result, was what he expected.

“We played well, but had some mental lapses … We were good at the nets; we were good at blocking and our services were good… I really don’t have any complains about the way the team performed”, Beauperthy analysed.

Beauperthy’s opposite number- Justus Connor, pointed out that his players fell in the area of keeping their mental side of their play sustained.

“Whenever we tried to find the rhythm, an error is made which affected our momentum and took us out of the game” Connor lamented.

Connor said being focussed for a longer period of time is critical if they are to stay in contention for a shot at the gold medal on Sunday.

Match three features a duel between St Martin and St Maarten.
