St. Martin rolls over IVB in three sets

MARIGOT, St. Martin, August 27, 2016 - Energized from their victory over perennial arch rivals, French St. Martin steam rolled opponents British Virgin Islands (IVB) with a score of 25 - 19  ; 25 - 16 ; 25 - 13 .  The “Phoenix” functioned like a smooth unit, with unstoppable hitting from, Julien Sponsper, Paul Quellery and Ashille Brooks.   The former torched IVB with twelve points, while Captain Quellery contributed eight.

Team IVB was unable to gain any traction against French St. Martin.  However they gave a good account of themselves and fought like there is no tomorrow.  There was improvement in every department with more consistent passing, better sets and more effective hits.  Unfortunately the injury bug limited the chances of improving.  Despite this, Canice Marquis was the team leading scorer, producing five points.

Coach Thierry Stephens worked a new game plan in which he utilized reserved players and rest the main squad.  Both Coach and Captain Paul Quellery were highly complementary of their opposition and implored them to continue working.  They were happy about being efficient, now they will prepare for the finals.

Coach Stephan Payne of the British Virgin Islands indicated he was happy to see the improvement in his players over the course of the two matches.  He feels with more practice they will do better.  He was also complementary of his setter as he was thrust in the role on short notice.
