The Road to Tokyo ends in Colima with the NORCECA Final Continental Cup

COLIMA, Mexico, June 23, 2021. - Colima is ready to stage the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Final Continental Cup from June 23 to 27 where the last Olympic berth per gender for the North, Central and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation will be secured for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The highly expected event was originally to be held last year here in Colima but due to the coronavirus pandemic it was re-scheduled with a revised qualification system as several stages of the NORCECA Continental Cup weren’t able to take place.

The competition consists of two teams per county joining efforts to obtain the Olympic ticket facing another country in a series of two wins out of three; if necessary, a tie-break will be decided from a golden set.

The three-day event will be officiated at the Morelos Sports Unit of the Coliman Sports Institute allowing a 40% occupancy due to Covid restrictions.

Players from Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands started their arrival in Colima on Monday and the official registration will take place on Wednesday followed by the general technical meeting. The single elimination competition kicks off on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and finals on Sunday when we will know the qualifying country (one per gender) to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
