Third most lopsided match in history

 

TRUJILLO, Peru, July 7 2019 – The Dominican Republic opened the second day of the XVIII Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup with a trouncing victory over Guatemala 3-0 (25-6, 25-8, 25-10) for the third most lopsided contest in the history of the event.

 

The match totaled 99 points with the Dominican Republic establishing a 51 point-difference (75-24)

 

The record of the cup is shared by Cuba and United States who left their opponents in 22 points for a total of 97 between the two teams and a 53-point margin. Cuba beat Guatemala 25-6, 25-11, 25-5 on June 20, 2004, while the United States crushed Trinidad & Tobago 25-8, 25-9, 25-5 on June 24, 2007.

 

The second lowest scoring match totaled 98 points with a 52 point-difference (75-23) and took place on June 22, 2010 when Peru rolled over Costa Rica 25-7, 25-7, 25-9.

 

The record for the lowest scoring set is 25-5 by Cuba over Guatemala and United States over Trinidad & Tobago.
