Three-way tie atop the standings in DR

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 6, 2019 – Natalia Martinez lost the scoring duel with Erasma Moreno but at the end her team Mirador won the long five-set battle against Caribeñas New Horizons in the Santo Domingo Women’s Volleyball Superior League on Tuesday.

 

Martínez scored 33 points to 38 by Moreno but Mirador claimed the victory 3-2 (15-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 15-12). Both teams have now 2-1 records.

 

Flormarie Heredia added 14 points in the victory while Geraldine González and Yanlis Feliz chipped in with 11 and 10, respectively. Annerys Vargas and Cándida Arias finished with 17 and 11 points for the losers.

 

In the other match of the night, Cristo Rey (2-1) defeated the winless Guerreras (0-3) in four sets 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 27-25, 25-21).

 

Gina Mambru led a balanced offense of Cristo Rey with 19 points followed by Marifranchi Rodríguez and Madeline Guillén each with 18 points and Romina Cornelio with 10.

 

Cristo Rey had 21 blocks including 11 by Rodriguez, both marks as tournament-highs.

 

Dahiana Burgos, Jeoselyna Rodríguez and Priscila Rivera had 17, 15 and 13 points, respectively, for Guerreras.
