USA blanks Argentina in match for Pool A top place

CALLAO, Peru, June 17, 2015 - United States stormed past Argentina in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-11) in the decisive match for first place in Pool A of the XIV Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao on Wednesday.

In a match that lasted just 68 minutes, the American side dominated from start to finish against an Argentinean team showing the effects of playing five intense sets one day earlier.

Lauren Paolini led USA with 13 points, including four blocks, while Alexandra Klineman and Krista Vansant chipped in with 10 points apiece. The winners led in attacks 41-21, blocks 12-4 and aces 5-0.

Kristin Hildebrand, captain of United States: “Playing against Argentina is always interesting. Today things came out the same way we planned. We served pretty well and controlled the match.”

Yamila Nizetich, captain of Argentina: “Today our reception didn’t work well and that situation created problems to overcome the blocking of USA which was very complicated down the middle.”

David Hunt, coach of United States: “Argentina is a very good team so we planned a pressing game and the strategy worked perfectly.”

Guillermo Orduna, coach of Argentina: “We need to learn to play against teams like United States. They plated strong and quick, especially down the corners and we couldn’t control them.”
