USA capture gold at U20 with victory over Dominican Republic

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 23, 2016 – USA defeated the Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-22) to capture the gold medal at the U20 Division of the High Performance Volleyball Championship.

The USA team finished with a 5-0 win-loss record and a perfect 15-0 in sets played. The Dominicans ended with 4-1.

Puerto Rico finished in third place with a 3-2 mark following their 3-2 (25-17, 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-8) victory over USA Youth 2 on Saturday.

In the U18 Division, Florida edged Iowa in five thrilling sets 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-27, 17-15) to claim the gold medal.

Florida, the second placed team in Pool 2, advanced to the decisive match with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-17, 23-25, 25-14) victory over the Dominican Republic, the only team with an undefeated in pool play at 7-0, in semifinals.

USA A1 Red relegated the Dominican Republic to a fourth place by winning the bronze medal with a 3-1 (15-25, 25-21, 2-20, 25-19) victory.
