USA duos, Cuba and Mexico reach Aguascalientes women’s semifinals
 

AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, April 20, 2019. - The two United States’ duos Amanda Dowdy/Corinne Quiggle and Falyn Fonoimoana/Nicolette Martin, Cubans Maylen Deliz/Leila Martínez and young Diana Valdez/María José Quintero of Mexico, reached the  women’s semifinals of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in Aguascalientes.

 

The first semifinal will be an all American battle with Dowdy and Quiggle facing Fonoimoana and Martin.

 

Amanda Dowdy and Corinne Quiggle arrived into the semifinals, after beating the number one seed of the event, Mexican Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta in quarterfinals. Dowdy and Quiggle used their best performance to outplay a tough Orellana and Revuelta 2-0 (25-23, 21-19).

 

Falyn Fonoimoana and Nicolette Martin´s route was not as hard while they prevailed 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) over the Curacao tandem of Angjeny Tolentino and Chritsine Anthony in quarterfinals. Fonoimoana and Martin were loud and effective the entire match.

 

In the group stage, Fonoimoana/Martin and Dowdy/Quiggle finished first and second in pool B.

 

On the other hand, Cubans Maylen Deliz and Leila Martínez will face the young Mexican pair of Diana Valdez and María José Quintero in the other women’s semifinal.

 

Maylen Deliz and Leila Martínez downed the both Canadian teams in the event. First, they beat Anna Dunn-Suen and Caleigh Cruickshank 2-0 (21-12, 21-12) to win pool D. The Cubans finished the day with a solid quarterfinal win 2-0 (21-17, 21-18) over Julie Gordon and Shanice Marcelle.

 

For the Mexican duo of Diana Valdez and María José Quintero it has been a spectacular NORCECA debut, as they remain with undefeated mark.

 

Valdez and Quintero went straight into the semifinals with thrilling victory 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 15-10) to Costa Rica’s Valeria Valenciano and Marcela Araya in quarterfinals. Earlier in the day, they won another tie-break 2-1 (18-21, 21-4, 15-8) against Paola Alvarado and Estefanie Bethancourt of Guatemala topping pool C. 

 

The tournament concludes on Sunday starting at noon with placing matches and the final match is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
