USA move closer to Tokyo 2020

ROTTERDAM, The Netherlands, August 10, 2019 – The United States (2-0) moved closer to seal a ticket the Men’s Volleyball Tournament of Tokyo 2020 after defeating Korea 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-16). Aaron Russell had 12 points for USA and Yung- Suk Shin chipped in with 10 for China

In Ningbo, China, Canada edged host China 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 17-15) to even its record at 1-1. Canadian Nicholas Hoag and Ryan Sclater scored 20 and 19 points, respectively, the same production of Chinese Libib Liu and Zhejia Zhang.

In St Petersburg, Russia, Iran blanked Mexico 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 27-25) in the second match for both teams in Pool E. The Iranians are 2-0 and Mexico slipped to 0-2. Porya Yali scored 20 for the winners and Daniel Vargas had 19 for Mexico.

Also in St Petersburg, Russia improved to 2-0 and Cuba dropped to 0-2 when the Russian beat the Cubans 3-0 (25-18, 26-24 27-25). Russian Dmitriy Volkov and Cuban Jesus Herrera each scored 15 points as the best scorers.

In Varna, Bulgaria, host Bulgaria beat Puerto Rico (0-2) in a lopsided match of Pool A 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-12).
