James Shaw, opposite player USA: “It’s good to start out with a good win, obviously there’s a lot of work to do; our serving and passing were really good in the first set and we need to keep it up, serving specially. We had some level of relaxation, but we know we need to focus; it’s a little bit of a balance. Our goal is to win the gold medal and there’s a long way to go”.

Carlos Lopez, captain Guatemala: “It was a rough start; United States is very experienced and they were comfortable. We were stressed in the beginning, but it helped to just enjoy the game, we supported each other. Some things went well but we have the objective of finishing among the first three places in our group, it won’t be easy but we will fight”.

Milan Zarkovic, coach USA: “Every first game is not the best you can do and we expected this. We can do much better because in some part of the game we were giving away more points than they were earning. We have a lot of things to put into tune to be better; the guys must do their job and we will improve with every game”.

Reider Lucas, coach Guatemala: “We believe this is the hardest group of the competition. United States is a mature team, they are coming from a good preparation, and they have a lot of time playing together. My guy’s energy wasn’t down, they did their best and it was really hard work because USA is superior”.
