USA’s Pardon and Dykstra triumph in Varadero

VARADERO, Cuba, July 17, 2017 – USA’s Jace Pardon and Lara Dykstra defeated Cuban favorites Leila Martinez and Lidianny Echeverría 2-0 (21-19, 21-16) to claim the women’s gold medal match of Varadero Beach Volleyball the fourth stop of 2017 NORCECA Circuit.

The event was a complete success and took place in the locations of Barcelo Solymar Arenas Blancas Hotel for second year in a row and was a complete success.

It was a sweet revenge for Pardon and Dykstra who were defeated by the Cuban pair in the gold medal match in Cayman Islands.

“We played very hard, we know them well and they are very strong but we focused on keeping them out of the net to control them,” said Lara about the strategy against the two-time champions this year.

Jace added: “We are happy with the victory and fascinated by the magnificent scene and the organization superior to other phases.”

Martinez and Echeverría who took home the titles in La Paz, Mexico and Cayman Islands, had to settle for the silver this time around.

In the semifinals, Pardon and Dykstra had to battle very hard before subduing compatriots Karissa Cook and Katherine Spieler 2-1 (21-19, 17-21, 15-6) while Martinez and Echeverría beat countrywomen Lianma Flores and Yanileydis Sanchez 2-0 (21-14, 22-20).

Flores and Sanchez, who won the silver medals in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, won the bronze medal with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-15) victory over Cook and Spieler.
