United States stop Japan at the net

HOFFMAN ESTATES, United States, June 21, 2019 – Team USA led Japan in blocks (12-3) and aces (8-2) as it swept the Asian side, 3-0 (25-15 25-19, 25-19) on Friday in an FIVB Volleyball Nations League match.

David Smith, Taylor Sander and Benjamin Patch had 14, 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the United States.

Smith had half of the 12 blocks by the winners and also landed three of the 8 aces by the host team.

Isei Otake had 13 points as the only Japanese player in double figures.

USA Coach John Speraw: “I thought we blocked the ball really well and had great energy early in the match. I thought our intensity was great. But it really started with our block and defence.”
