United States win the FIVB U18 World Championship

ISMAILIA, Egypt, September 14, 2019 – Third time is the charm. After finishing second to Italy in the past two editions of the FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship, the United States edged the European side 3-2 (25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-10) to win the title for the first time ever on Saturday.

Italy’s hopes of winning an unprecedented third straight crown were put to rest by the American side.

Stats show a close match as Italy edged USA in attacks 45-44 and both teams scored seven aces. The winners dominated in blocks 15-12 and made 31 errors to 40 by the losers.

Emily Londot and Jessica Mruzik led USA with 19 and 16 points, respectively. Alessia Bolzonetti and Oghosasere Loveth Omoruyi each had 17 for Italy.

In the match for the bronze medal, Brazil defeated China 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 22-25, 27-25).

In other matches, Canada lost to Korea 3-2 (11-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-10) in the match for the 13-14 places, while Puerto Rico lost to Thailand 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-22) to finish in the 16th position.

Mexico finished in the 18th positions after finishing second in the playoff for the 17 to 20 positions.
