Valencianas overcome Changas in Puerto Rico

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, February 28, 2019 – Valencianas de Juncos climbed back from a 0-2 hole to hand Changas de Naranjito their first loss of the season to start the sixth week of actions in the Puerto Rican Superior League.

 

Valencianas won by scores of 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-12) with Paulina Prieto leading the attack with 21 points, followed by Lynda Morales (17) and Ivonessa García (14). Andrea Rangel of Changas had a match-high 29 points in the losing effort.

 

Juncos improved their record to 5-8 with 14 points while Changas suffered their first defeat to put their win-loss mark at 12-1 with 36 points in the first position.

 

In other matches:

 

Indias of Mayaguez came back to defeat Polluelas of Aibonito 3-1 (17-25, 25-13, 25-19, 26-24). The Indias now have 15 points (5-8) while Aibonito stayed with 3 points (0-13).

 

In Toa Baja, the Amazonas of Trujillo Alto kept their fourth place after defeating Llaneras in straight sets 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-22).

 

Alba Hernández (13), Zoe Sostre (12) and Adriana Viña (10) were the best scorers for Amazonas. Génesis Collazo had 14 for Toa Baja.

 

Trujillo Alto has 16 points with a 6-6 record and Toa Baja stays with 17 points (6-5).
