Vernon scores 31 in Canada’s loss to Poland
URMIA, Iran, June 16, 2019 - Canada's Sharone Vernon became the
first player this season to break the 30+ points barrier in a
single FIVB Volleyball Nations League match, when he scored 31
in his team's 3-1 (25-20, 25-27, 25-20, 28-26) defeat to Poland
Sunday in Urmia.
The 20-year-opposite scored 28
points from attack, had 2 blocks and served one ace today
against Poland. He is the only player in the VNL on a losing
side to have scored 30+.
Vernon is the sixth player to
join the list, after the top five from last season. The all-time
VNL scoring record in a single match remains 37 points by
China's Jiang Chuan from last year's match against France.
Dawid Konarski and Aleksander Sliwka were the top Polish scorers
with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
