Volleyball and Beach VB included in CA Games’ program
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, February 3, 2017 – Volleyball and Beach
Volleyball are included in the competition program of the Xi
Central American Games to be held in the capital of Nicaragua
and other cities from December 3 to 17.
NORCECA Volleyball Confederation is responsible for the
supervision of those sport disciplines in collaboration with the
Organizing Committee and the Nicaraguan Volleyball Federation.
The Volleyball tournament is to be played at the Multi-Sport
Gymnasium currently under construction at Luis Alfonso Velásquez
Flores Park, an 8,000-seat venue in Managua. The Beach
Volleyball event will be held at Xolotlan Boulevard also in the
Nicaraguan capital.
Costa Rica is the reigning champion in women’s volleyball after
claiming its seventh crown and third in a row four years ago at
home in San Jose with a victory over Guatemala in the final
match. Nicaragua won the bronze medal.
In 2013, Honduras won the men’s gold medal after a dramatic
five-set victory over Costa Rica and Panama claimed the bronze
medal. It was the first gold medal ever for Honduras.
Costa Ricans Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro were crowned in
women’s beach volleyball with the silver medal going to
Nicaraguans Elia Torres and Swan Mendoza. Guatemalans Ingrid
Lopez and Lourdes Ramirez finished in third place.
Nicaraguans Gerald Umaña and Henry Hernandez won the men’s gold
medal over Salvadorans Carlos Escobar and David Vargas.
Guatemalans Andy Leonardo and Luis Garcia won the bronze medal. |
