Women’s Quarterfinals are set in Punta Cana

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, September 29, 2018 – Mexicans Martha Revuelta and Zaira Orellana are among the quarterfinalists of the female segment of the Punta Cana Beach Volleyball Tournament, the fourth stop of the 2018 NORCECA Circuit.

Revuelta and Orellana will play Costa Ricans Marcela Araya and Eugenia Ramírez on early Sunday after the bad weather conditions forced to stop the competition on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams of United States registered to play have secured spots in the quarterfinals as Falyn Fonoimoana and Molly Turner of United States-B will play Blanca Regino and Estefanie Bethancourt of Guatemala while Katie Spieler and Karissa Cook of United States-A will clash with Yanisleidis Sanchez and Arin Hechavarría of Cuba.

The other quarterfinal match features Nicole and Megan McNamara of Canada playing against Nicaraguans Swan Mendoza and Socorro López.

Araya and Ramirez advanced with a 2-1 (14-21, 21-19, 15-12) win over Darby Dunn and Devon May of Canada-B.

Fonoimoana and Turner beat Almeida-Ariz and Valenciana of US Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-9, 21-14) while Sanchez and Arlin defeated Allanis Navas and Maria Gonzalez of Puerto Rico 2-1(21-18, 15-21, 16-14)

Finally, Nicaraguans Swan Mendoza and Socorro Lopez got their ticket to the quarterfinals after a 2-1 victory over Kai Wright and Sashalee Wallen of Jamaica (17-21, 21-13, 15-11).
