Youth Olympians Navas and Gonzalez advance in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, November 11, 2018 - No surprises occurred
in their second game in the National School Volleyball
Championship for the youth Olympians Maria Gonzalez and Allanis
Navas.
Both athletes and their institutions advanced to the Girls'
Quarter Finals to be played on Monday, November 12 at the
Borinquen Coqui Complex in Cupey.
Piaget de Manatí with González beat Frobel de Aguadilla (who has
the prospect of the U-20 team, Ariana Pagán). The scores of the
match were 25-15, 25-10. Gonzalez only saw action in the second
set.
Piaget will play tomorrow, Monday, November 12 at 5:45 pm
against the Sacred Heart of Ponce School that dominated Wesleyan
de Guaynabo (25-18, 25-17).
On the other hand, Navas and the Disciples of Christ Academy
took another step in the championship by beating CIEM de
Carolina. The set scores were 25-19, 25-11.
Disciples goes against Valvanera de Toa Baja in Monday’s
quarterfinals, The Puerto Rican Girls' School, led by the
national coach, José Mieles, advanced to the quarterfinals by
defeating Cristo Rey de Ponce (25-10, 25-22).
The Colegio Notre Dame de Caguas beat the school Emilio R.
Delgado (25-16, 25-10). The Caguas institution will face Saint
Francis who defeated Captain Correa de Hatillo (25-18, 25-21).
A total of 350 teams from 105 schools in 35 municipalities, are
active with more than 4,000 students-athletes and about 200
coaches. A total of 310 matches will be played during the 10
days of the competition. |
