Lefty Mexican Jose Martell was
elected the MVP |

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 9, 2007.-
Veteran Jose Martell, whose leadership qualities and overall
ability, helped Mexico to win the gold medal of the Men’s
Volleyball Pan American Cup, was elected as the Most Valuable
Player of the competition.
The lefty hitter Martell was the only member of the new
champions in the All-Star Team, which reflects the team-effort
made by the Mexican squad during the whole tournament.
Cuban Yadier Sanchez won the best scorer and best attacker
categories and Dominican Amaury Martinez was both the best
receiver and libero.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 8, 2007.- Mexico won
the gold medal of the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by
scoring a four-set victory over Puerto Rico 26-24, 25-22,
21-25, 25-20 on Friday night.
The Mexicans, who finished in second place of Pool A during
the preliminary phase, defeated Panama in the quarterfinals,
and then beat Cuba in semi finals. Their only loss was against
the Puerto Ricans in their opening match.

Cuba won the bronze medal at the Men’s Volleyball Pan American
Cup by defeating Canada in four sets (25-21, 25-27, 25-21,
25-19) on Friday.
As the third place team of this competition, Cuba qualified
along with Puerto Rico and Mexico to the 2008 Americas Cup in
Brazil.
Yadier Sanchez, the Cuban Captain, was the top scorer of the
match with 24 points, Raidel Gonzalez added 16, including

Trinidad & Tobago finished in sixth place |

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic,
June 8, 2007.-
Trinidad & Tobago
avenged the loss suffered during the Pool B play by defeating
Panama in straight sets and finishing in the sixth position at
the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup.
The Trinidadians
only needed 68 minutes to win by scores of 25-20, 26-24,
25-17.

Puerto Rico to meet Mexico in final match |

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 7, 2007.-
Puerto Rico will clash with Mexico in the match for the gold
medal of the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup on Friday.
The Puerto Ricans recovered from losing the first set and
continued to beat Canada 22-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-20 in their
semi final encounter. Previously Mexican had defeated Cuba in
four sets.
Victor Bird scored a tournament high 32 points for Puerto Rico
and Alexis Matias and Enrique Escalante each added 13. Mark
Dodds and Dallas Soonias led Canada with 17 and 11 points.

Mexico advanced to the gold medal match of the Men’s Pan
American Cup with a convincing victory over Cuba in four sets
on Thursday.
Relying on solid blocking and good overall defense, the
Mexicans got the win by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22.
The victory earned Mexico one spot in next year’s Americas Cup
in Brazil. Cuba remains with a chance to qualify for the
Brazilian event if wins the bronze medal on Friday.

The Dominican Republic defeated Panama 25-16, 25-22, 25-23 in
the match for the fifth place of the Men’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup on Thursday.
Both teams played mostly with their reserve players in the
match preceding the semi finals encounters.
Eduardo Concepcion with 18 points was the best Dominican
scorer. Cesar Canario and Felipe Henriquez added 14 and 10
respectively. Domingo Avila with 12 points and Luis Maciao
with 8 topped Panama.

Canada beat Dominican Republic and
joined the Final Four |

June 6, 2007.-
Canada completed the final four
teams in the semi final phase of the Men’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup after scoring a 25-23, 25-15, 25-23 over host
Dominican Republic.
Canada overcame an 11-16 deficit
in the first set, and never looked back taking control of the
action.
Mark Dodd had 20 points for Canada and Toontje Van Lankvelt
and Kris Brand contributed 11 and 9 points. Dominicans Elvis
Contreras and Jose Caceres each had 12 and Eury Almonte added
9.

Mexico advanced to the semi finals |

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 6, 2007.-
Mexico earned its spot in the semi finals of the Men’s
Volleyball Pan American Cup with an easy victory in straight
sets over Panama on Wednesday.
The more experienced Mexicans only had difficulties in the
second set when they committed several errors before
recovering. The final score was 25-14, 26-24, 25-16.
Jose Martell and Juan Garcia each had 16 points as the main
weapons for Mexico and Irving Bricio added 11 tallies. Carlos
Zuniga with 10 points was the only Panamanian in double
figures.

Cuba advanced to the semi final round of the Men’s Pan
American Cup with a straight set victory (25-23, 25-22, 25-20)
over host Dominican Republic.
The Cubans, who finished with a perfect record of 3-0 in Pool
B, outscored their rivals in blockings 12-3.
Yadier Sanchez was the best scorer of the match with 19 points
for Cuba and Osmany Camejo added 9, including six blocks.
Dominicans Elvis Contreras and Jose Caceres had 16 and 13
respectively.

Puerto Rico beat Mexico and won Pool

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 5, 2007.-
Puerto Rico moved to the semi finals of the Men’s Pan American
Cup with a four-set victory over Mexico by scores of 25-23,
25-27, 26-24, 25-19.
It was a very tough battle for the first three sets with both
teams exchanging good and bad moments, but in the fourth the
Puerto Ricans built a comfortable lead and cruised to the
triumph and first place in Pool A.
Victor Bird with 24 points led four Puerto Ricans in double
digits. Roberto Muniz had 15 and Josue Nunez and Enrique
Escalante added 12 and 11 respectively.

Panama advanced to the
quarterfinales |

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 5, 2007.-
Panama advanced to the quarterfinals of the Men’s Pan American
Cup with a 27-25, 25-18, 26-24 victory over Trinidad & Tobago
in Pool B of the event.
Jose Cunningham and Domingo Avila led Panama with 16 and 11
points respectively while Trinidadian Nolan Tash and Marc
Honore scored 24 and 12.
While the first set was a close battle from start to finish,
Panama was the better team on the court from the second set on
with better technique and taking advantage of their opponents’
mistakes. The Panamanians saw a wide margin reduced in the
third set but recovered to prevail.

Dominican Republic with stainless record in two

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 4, 2007.-
The Dominican Republic lost the first set against Panama but
recovered well to get its second win in as many outings in
Pool B of the Second Men’s Pan American Cup.
The host Dominicans triumphed by scores of 25-27, 25-20,
25-22, 25-15, and tomorrow will meet Cuba to define the winner
of the pool who automatically advance to the semi final phase.
Elvis Contreras, Jose Caceres and Juan Pozo had 17, 14 and 12

Mexico began its participation in the Second Men’s Pan
American Cup with a triumph over Canada in five sets by scores
of 19-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 16-14.
Lefty Jose Martell paced the Mexican attack with 20 points and
Gustavo Meyer added 17 tallies. Other Mexicans in double
digits were Juan Garcia and Irving Bricio with 12 and 10
respectively.

Cuba beat a resilient Trinidad &
Tobago |

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 4, 2007.-
Cuba won its second match at the Men’s Pan American Cup but
not before clashing against a resilient squad from Trinidad &
Tobago and winning 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 30-28.
The spikes of Captain Yadier Sanchez were decisive in the
fourth set when Cuba overcame five set-points and finally got
the victory.

June 3, 2007.-
The Dominican Republic recovered from a shaky start and beat
Trinidad & Tobago 27-25, 25-13, 25- 23 in the last match of
Sunday at the Men’s Pan American Cup.
The athletic Trinidadians made a strong effort in the first
set and fought evenly against the host Dominicans who finally
prevailed with the serves and spikes of their star Elvis
Contreras.
On Monday, the Dominican Republic plays against Panama while
Trinidad & Tobago meets Cuba in Pool B. In Pool A, Mexico
debuts against Canada and Puerto Rico has a rest day. More

Cuba
defeated Panama in Opening Match |

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 3, 2007.-
Cuba scored an easy victory in straight sets (25-14, 25-21,
25-18) over Panama in the opening match of the Men’s
Volleyball Pan American Cup.
The Cubans established their strong blocking and did not have
problems controlling the match from start to finish, with a
light resistance from the Panamanian in the second set.
Raidel Gonzalez paced Cuba with 16 points, including two
blocks, and Yadier Sanchez, Raidel Delgado and Osmany Camejo
added 14, 10 and 9 tallies respectively. Domingo Avila was the
top scorer of Panama with 13 points.
