Cuba’s Men Take Sweet Revenge
PUERTO ARISTA, Chiapas, May 20, 2012 - Cuba’s Karrel Piña and
Sergio Gonzalez beat Mexico’s Juan Virgen and Aldo Miramontes
after a shaky start for the Cuban team. In the end, the
islanders won the first place in three sets (25-27, 21-15,
15-11) during this NORCECA Championship held in Puerto Arista,
Chiapas.
For the Cuban men, this victory felt like revenge after having
been overpowered by Mexico in three sets.

Cuba’s women show power
PUERTO ARISTA, Chiapas, May 20, 2012 - With a flawless defense,
Cuban duo Niriam Sinal and Ion Canet won the gold this Sunday
during the fourth stop of the VI NORCECA Beach Volleyball
Circuit, after beating Americans Michelle Moriarty and Traci Weamer in two tight sets (22-20, 25-23) before more than 2,000
spectators.
The islanders had to work hard in the semifinal match before
defeating the Mexican duo of Vanessa Virgen and Martha Revuelta
in three sets.

Dominican Republic to semis in Chiapas
PUERTO ARISTA, Chiapas, May 19, 2012 – Men’s teams of Dominican
Republic, Cuba, Mexico-1 and Mexico-2 reached to the semifinals
of the Chiapas Beach Volleyball Tournament, the fourth stop of
the 2012 NORCECA Circuit.
The Dominican duo of Luis Adames/German Recio went around their
last hurdle by outlasting Cameron Wheelan/William Sidwick of
Canada-2 in three sets (21-15, 17-21, 15-13) and prepare for a
pódium battle since the two Mexican pairs will face each other
while the Dominicans have to clash with Cuba.

United States edge Puerto Rico in quarterfinals duel
PUERTO ARISTA, Chiapas, May 19, 2012 – Women’s teams of Cuba,
Mexico-1, Canada and United States advanced on Saturday to the
semifinals of the Chiapas Beach Volleyball Tournament, the
fourth stop of the 2012 NORCECA Circuit.
In Sunday’s scheduled, United States meet Canada while Cuba face
off Mexico-1. The most dramatic match was the one between United
States and Puerto Rico, where Michelle Moriarty/Traci Weamer.

Tight Battle in Men’s at Chiapas Beach
PUERTO ARISTA, Chiapas, May 18, 2012 - On the
first day of competition, the men’s double
elimination system allowed several teams the
opportunity to keep their hopes high for
advancing. Mexico-3 and Aruba-2 are the only
teams to have been eliminated, so far. The
Canadian teams, competing in the losing bracket,
overcame all obstacles and are set to contend
along with the United States, Cuba, and Mexico 1
during the next phase. Mexico 1 won the title
last year.

Mexico and Canada win their pools in Chiapas
PUERTO ARISTA, Chiapas, May 18, 2012 – The teams
of Vanessa Virgen and Martha Revuelta (Mexico-1)
and Caleigh Whitaker and Victoria Altamore
(Canada) secured top place in pools C and D
respectively by winning their two matches during
opening day of the Chiapas Beach Tournament of
the 2012 NORCECA Circuit. Virgen/Revueltas
defeated Costa Ricans Katherine Quesada and
Eugenia Ramirez 21-11, 21-15 before downing
compatriots Samarah Aleman and Judith Catica of
Mexico-2 by 21-13, 21-14.

The stage is set for Beach Volley in Chiapas
