AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, April 23,
2022 – Teams representing Canada and United
States will play in the finals of the San Marcos
Beach Volleyball Tournament as pairs from those
powerhouses are set to battle between them in
Sunday’s semifinals.
Canadians Shanice Marcelle and
Ruby Sorra will challenge compatriots Brandie
Wilkerson and Sophie Bukovec while Alexandra
Wheeler and Susannah Munno will meet fellow
Americans Megan Gebhard and Savanah Simo in the
Final Four phase.
Marcelle and Sorra won the first
quarterfinals match over Ambert Bennett and
Cristina Almeida of U.S. Virgin Islands 2-0
(21-7, 21-11) in 26 minutes followed by Wheeler
and Munno winning 2-0 (21-12, 24-22) over Abril
Flores and Esperanza Albarran of Mexico.
The women’s action continued with
Wilkerson and Bukovec defeating Mexicans Atenas
Gutierrez and María Quintero 2-0 (21-16, 21-10)
and Gebhard and Simo breezing past the local
team of Alejandra Villavicencio and María
Celeste Ibarra 2-0 (21-10, 21-12). |
