AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, April 24, 2022 –
Canadians Brandie Wilkerson and Sophie Bukovec
won the women’s segment of the San Marcos Beach
Volleyball Tournament the first stage of the
NORCECA Tour 2022.
Wilkerson and Bukovec scored a convincing 2-0
(21-17, 21-10) victory over USA’s pair of
Alexandra Wheeler and Susannah Muno in 34
minutes.
In the semifinals Wilkerson and Bukovec won a
battle against compatriots Shanice Marcelle and
Ruby Sorra 2-1 (21-14, 20-22, 15-13) while
Wheeler and Muno beat Megan Gebhard and Savanah
Simo 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) in a match between
American pairs.
Marcelle and Sorra took home the bronze medal
with a 30-minute job against Gebhard and Simo
that concluded 2-0 (21-16, 21-14).
In the qualification process for the 5-8
positions the Mexican pair of Abril Flores and
Esperanza Albarrán crushed Amber Bennett and
Cristina Almeida 2-0 (21-6, 21-7) in 24 minutes
and Atenas Gutiérrez and Maria Quintero stopped
Alejandra Villavicencio and María Celeste Ibarra
2-0 (21-13, 21-11) in an all-Mexican contest.
Gutiérrez/Quintero claimed 5th place after
defeating Flores/Albarrán 2-0 (21-15, 21-15)
while Villavicencio/Ibarra finished in 7th place
following their 2-0 (21-14, 21-10) win over
Bennett/Almeida. |
